Il Parlamento irlandese ha riaperto il dibattito ormai ventennale per consentire di far passare una legge che renderebbe legale l’aborto nel paese qualora la vita della donna fosse in pericolo.
Dopo una seduta parlamentare notturna durata fino alle prime luci dell’alba, è previsto per stasera un voto sulla proposta di legge. L’anno passato l’opinione pubblica irlandese era stata scossa dal caso della morte di una donna a cui era stata negata l’interruzione volontaria di gravidanza anche se il feto era morto.
Il premier Enda Kenny, che caldeggia fortemente la proposta di legge, sta incontrando però forti resistenze dal suo stesso partito (conservatore) e dalla Chiesa cattolica, impegnata a sostenere una campagna pro-life per ridurre il numero delle donne che decidono di andare ad abortire in Gran Bretagna.
