Respinta con 390 voti contro 148 la mozione che voleva affossare la legge sulle nozze gay in Inghilterra e Galles, la Camera dei Lord britannica ha dato il via libera al provvedimento con una maggioranza di 242 voti.

Il Regno Unito è così sempre più vicino a dare l'ok ai matrimoni omosessuali, evitando di creare un precdente storico interrompendo il percorso di una legge già approvata dalla Camera dei Comuni, oltre che tenacemente sostenuta dal governo del David Cameron.

Mancano adesso alcuni passaggi, tra cui la terza lettura alla Camera dei Lord e il 'sigillo reale' che dovrà esserea appposto dalla Regina Elisabetta. Concluso l'iter, il Regno Unito potrebbe diventare il 15esimo Paese a rendere legali le nozze gay; l'ultimo è stato la Francia, il 7 novembre scorso.

When I initially commented I clicked the "Notify me when new comments are added"
checkbox and now each time a comment is added I
