‘Baby soldiers’, condannato Lubanga
Thomas Lubanga Dyilo, ex capo della milizia delle Repubblica democratica del Congo, è stato condannato a 14 anni di carcere per aver reclutato bambini soldato. A deciderlo è stato il Tribunale penale internazionale dell’Aia, che ha giudicato Lubanga colpevole di aver rapito bambini minorenni e di averli costretti a combattere in guerra nella Repubblica democratica del Congo nel 2002 e 2003.
La condanna del 51enne 'arruolatore di bambini' rappresenta una pietra miliare in quanto è la prima persona a cui è stata inflitta una pena dalla Corte, istituita da soli 10 anni. Per i procuratori, Lubanga avrebbe dovuto scontare 30 anni di carcere o – nel caso in cui il “signore della guerra” si fosse “ scusato sinceramente” con le vittime dei reati da lui commessi – almeno vent’anni. Nessuna reazione da parte dell’ex capo della milizia congolese quando il giudice Adrian Fulford ha letto la sentenza. (S.G.)
